I think it's completely unreasonable for these companies to cap they way they have. 1. They eliminate paper bills (or push you very hard to do so). 2. They provide usage graphs - but only if you happen to be someone who proactively logs in to look. No desktop tray app (of which I am aware) or SMS notification, etc. 3. Since the phase in of DSL and phase out of ISDN, Internet has always understood to have been unlimited "free" for the monthly rate. I bet 8/10 consumers would be surprised to know that their home internet is limited. 4. Yes, we may be in the top 2% using 300-500GB/mo. but how about my grandma who uses 100MB/mo? You can't tell me that they don't balance out. 5. I could go on and on... You know, Tony, this topic alone could be its own post or Podcast topic. I have three 4G modems - two mobile (USB) and a "home" modem. My contract terms state that I have unlimited access and no cap on download speed and only a 1.5Mb cap on the upload speed (which is fine). While still in California, I cancelled Comcast at my house and lived off of Netflix and AppleTV and there were 400GB/mo. months and not a peep from them. I think they may be the last honest "Unlimited" internet solution even if they raised their prices and lowered the quality of their offerings to new customers in order to compensate. So, I am grandfathered in to Clear 4G’s “Unlimited” 4G data plan. I have three 4G modems – two mobile (USB) and a “home” modem. So, it should come as no surprise that Comcast makes my blood boil at least twice a year. This is a direct statement from them in regards to their 250GB cap: "By way of example, Netflix's website reports that it offers three video quality settings for consumers, which range from up to 0.3 GB per hour for "good quality" to up to 2.3 GB per hour for "best quality." To which Netflix states; "...viewing 30 hours of Netflix could consume as much as 70 GBytes."
